13 days Ganges Cruise from Calcutta to Varansi  



Itinerary:


Day 01: Arrival Calcutta (Kolkata)

After arrival in Calcutta Transfer to RV Bengal Ganga and embarkation.

Enjoy the lunch on board. In the afternoon city tour of Kolkata. You see several historical buildings, such as the 

built in white marble Victoria Memorial (photo stop), the north gate Taj Bhavan, the General Post Office, 

the St. John's Cathedral, City Hall and Reserve Bank of India.

Overnight in Calcutta on board.

 

Day 02: Calcutta (Kolkata) - Kalna

Today we pass various bank settlements, by wide, flat land of West Bengal on the Hoogly River to Kalna, 

a city with numerous historical landmarks, which was named after the deity Kali.

Overnight on board.

 

Day 03: Kalna - Matiari

After breakfast you will take a rickshaw tour to Rajbari complex,

the Jain temple Pratapeshwar and Lalji temple complex.

Then it goes past the holy city of Mayapur, faith and birthplace of Sree Chaitanya Mahaprabhu the incarnation 

of Krishna. Overnight on board.

 

Day 04: Matiari - Murshidabad

In the morning visit of Matiari, which was known by the brass crafts.

Continue to Plassey, known for the Battle of the 1757th.

The victory at Plassey launched the beginning of British rule in India and the superiority of the West in Asia. 

You continue to Murshidabad. Overnight on board.

 

Day 05: Murshidabad - Jangipur

Today you can visit the Hazarduari palace with the "thousand doors"

the Katra mosque which also houses the grave of Nawab Murshid Quli Khan is and the temple complex in Baranagar. 

Continue to Jangipur. Overnight on board.

 

Day 06: Jangipur - Farakka - Rajmahal

In the morning the ship reaches the lock to the Ganges canal and the dam at Farakka that directs the water of the 

Ganges in India and Bangladesh. Continue to Rajmahal. Overnight on board.

 

Day 07: Rajmahal - Karagola - Bateshwarstan

Explore the ruins of palaces and mosques in a walk. Rajmahal was once called Akbarnagar and founded by the 

Mughal emperor Akbar as capital of Bengal in the year 1592nd

Afterwards drive through the area of Karagola, known by many species of birds,

until Bateshwarstan. Overnight on board.

 

Day 08: Bateshwarsthan - Sultanganj

In the morning visit to the Vikramshila University in Bateshwarsthan, she was one of the most important centers 

of Buddhist teachings in India, with more than a hundred teachers and about a thousand students. Next comes 

the river journey through the Vikramshila Gangetic Dolphin Sanctuary, which was established to protect the

Day 09: Sultanganj - Munger

Day 10: Munger - Simaria

After breakfast, visit the Swami Niranjanananda Bihar Yoga School and

Then it goes on to Simaria, the birthplace of the famous Hindi poet, Singh Dinkar Ramdhari.

Day 11 Simaria - Nalanda - Bodhgaya

Disembarkation and bus ride to the ruins of Nalanda,

where the oldest and largest Buddhist university (5th -. 12th century) was.

The late 12th century during the Islamic conquest of India, the university was destroyed.

After the sightseeing tour drive by bus to Rajgir, the first capital of the Magadha Empire, where Buddha lived for 

many years and held important sermons.

Lunch at a local restaurant and drive to Bodhgaya, the world's most important Buddhist pilgrimage site.

In Bodhgaya is one of the holiest sites of Buddhism, the Mahabodhi Temple.

Overnight at hotel in Bodhgaya.

 

Day 12: Bodhgaya - Varanasi

After breakfast drive to Varanasi, the holiest city of the Hindus. With rickshaws we explore the bustling streets 

of Varanasi. On foot, it proceeds to the Ghats to witness the nightly ceremony "Aarti" at the Ganges.

Overnight at Hotel in Varanasi.

 

Day 13: Return journey

Breakfast. Transfer to the airport for your individual return journey or connecting program.

This river cruise is also offered in a reverse direction (downstream) from Varanasi to Kolkata.

Day 14: Varansi - Delhi

Early in the morning at sunrise you experience the Ganges life on the holy river during a boat trip.

With the boat you will pass the stone stairs, the ghats, where pilgrims take a ritual bath,

people do their yoga exercises and meditating, many beggars are and the ashes of the dead are 

passed to the river. In the afternoon, take a trip to Sarnath.

In the afternoon transfer to airport for flight to Delhi. Overnight at the Hotel.

 

Day 15: Delhi

In the morning city tour of New Delhi, you will visit the Laxmi Narayan Temple, India Gate

and the seat of the president.

In the afternoon we continue in Old Delhi with the largest mosque Jama Masjid Asia

and the Red Fort and the Mahatma Gandhi memorial.

Overnight in Delhi.

 

Day 16: Delhi - Sikandra - Agra

In the morning, bus trip to Agra. Lunch on the way and stop at Sikandra to visit the Akbar mausoleum. 

Afterwards drive to Agra in. Overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 17: Full day tour of Agra.

First, you will visit the world famous Taj Mahal.

Then you will see the mausoleum Itmad-ud-Daulah and the Red Fort of Agra,

which was built of red sandstone and is the largest fortification in the world.

Overnight in Agra.

 

Day 18: Keoladeo National Park - Fatehpur Sikri

Early in the morning visit the Keoladeo Ghana National Park, one of the most important bird sanctuaries 

in the world. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon trip to Fatehpur Sikri. The monuments of this former capital of the Mughal Empire are a 

UNESCO World Heritage Site. Return to the hotel in Agra and overnight.

 

Day 19: Agra - Delhi

After breakfast, return by bus to Delhi. Lunch will be served at a restaurant in Delhi. In the afternoon you have 

the option on Dilli Haat Market to buy your last souvenirs.

Overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 20: Departure

After breakfast, transfer to the airport and return flight.
